4th Strategy for Change: Design for Transformative Practices

DESCRIPTION

The world is changing, and every day we learn new ways to cope with these changes as well as new way to actively change the world ourselves, preferably for the better by addressing our societal challenges. The EU project Strategy for Change explores new methodologies to support innovation in the social realm.

We like to welcome you to the 4th International Strategy for Change (S4C) Symposium at March 31 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The topic of this symposium is Transformative Practices, i.e. practices that explore and support alternative societal paradigms and aim at enabling socially, environmentally and economically sustainable communities. For that we design and research in cross-disciplinary teams (including citizens) the qualities of interactive materiality and interaction, which can elevate (transform) personal / social ethics and related behaviour. Moreover, we design and research how these new designs that start from an embodied perspective, can be developed with help from technology, in a way that they support societal and paradigmatic transformation and lead to sustainable communities.

For this, we are building a design programme that enables people interested in this area, to mature proficiency in transformative practices. The design programme includes knowledge, theories, frameworks, methods, spaces, tools, exemplars and experts, which can be employed during design processes in context.

During the S4C symposium you will be inspired and informed about Transformative Practices (TP), what it could entail and how it can help addressing our societal challenges. We have created a day with:

  • presentations and a panel discussion with experts in the field,
  • a workshop where you can experience yourself what design could offer,
  • an exhibition showing 12 projects in the realm of dementia and synergetic neighbourhoods
  • and a reflection session to discuss this approach and its possibilities for the audience.

We are excited to welcome citizens and experts with a variety of backgrounds from academia, business, governance and design/architecture practice.
